✈️ How to Get to Camiguin
For travelers coming from Cagayan de Oro, one of the easiest routes is to drive approximately two hours to Balingoan Port, followed by a one-hour ferry ride to Benoni Port in Camiguin.
If you’re traveling with your own vehicle, the ferry also transports cars, making it incredibly convenient to explore the island at your own pace. The driver’s fare is generally included with the vehicle ticket, while additional passengers purchase separate ferry tickets.
For visitors arriving from Manila or other major cities, flights to Camiguin Airport (CGM) are available on selected routes. Another convenient option is flying to Cagayan de Oro and continuing by land and ferry.

Camiguin is home to several important Catholic pilgrimage sites, making Easter one of the busiest times of the year. During one of my trips, I waited over five hours just to board the ferry with my car.
If you enjoy lively holiday celebrations, you may still enjoy the atmosphere. However, for a more relaxing experience with shorter ferry queues and fewer crowds, visiting outside the Easter season is highly recommended.
Best Things to Do in Camiguin
One of the biggest advantages of visiting Camiguin is that the island is compact and easy to explore. Most attractions are connected by a single coastal road, making it possible to enjoy several highlights in one day without spending hours in traffic.
Based on both my own visits and the island’s layout, I recommend exploring Camiguin over two days rather than trying to rush through everything in a single day. It gives you enough time to enjoy each destination without feeling exhausted.
📅 Day 1 – Historical Landmarks, Springs & Local Flavors
Start your morning by visiting one of Camiguin’s most iconic landmarks, the Sunken Cemetery. Created after a volcanic eruption in the 1870s, the cemetery now rests beneath the sea and is marked by a giant white cross standing offshore. It’s one of the island’s most photographed attractions and a great place to learn about Camiguin’s unique history.

Whenever I visit Camiguin, I always make a quick stop at Sunken Cemetery. Besides enjoying the ocean view, it’s a great place to take memorable photos with the giant cross in the background. Local photographers are usually nearby and know exactly where to position you for the best shot. If you’re happy with the photos, giving them a small tip of around ₱50 is a nice way to show your appreciation.
Continue your journey to the nearby Old Spanish Church Ruins (Guiob Church Ruins). The remains of this historic church provide a fascinating glimpse into Camiguin’s volcanic past and are one of the island’s most significant cultural landmarks.
After exploring the historical sites, cool off at either Sto. Niño Cold Spring or the unique Soda Water Swimming Pool.
Sto. Niño Cold Spring is famous for its crystal-clear freshwater and naturally cool temperature, making it the perfect place to relax during the warm tropical afternoon.
If you’re looking for something different, the Soda Water Swimming Pool offers naturally carbonated spring water—an experience that’s surprisingly rare and unique to Camiguin.
No trip to Camiguin is complete without tasting its most famous local delicacy—Vjandep Pastel.
These soft buns are filled with creamy custard, ube, chocolate, cheese, or other sweet fillings. While you’ll find Pastel sold at airports and souvenir shops throughout the Philippines, nothing compares to enjoying them freshly baked at the original Vjandep bakery in Camiguin.

Whenever I’m in Camiguin, I always stop by Vjandep before heading home. Freshly baked Pastel tastes much softer and richer than the packaged versions sold elsewhere. If it’s your first visit, the original custard filling is definitely the one to try.
Finish your first day with dinner at one of Camiguin’s popular Italian restaurants, famous for its wood-fired pizza and homemade pasta. It’s a favorite among both locals and visitors, offering a cozy atmosphere after a full day of sightseeing.
If you still have time before sunset, head to Utopia Café. Perched on higher ground, it offers beautiful panoramic views over Camiguin along with good coffee and surprisingly delicious meals—making it a perfect place to unwind before the evening.

📅 Day 2 – White Island, Waterfalls & Hot Springs
Wake up early and head to White Island, Camiguin’s most iconic attraction.
Just a short traditional boat ride from Agoho Beach, this stunning white sandbar offers panoramic views of Mount Hibok-Hibok and the surrounding coastline. Since the sandbar changes shape with the tides, every visit feels a little different.

White Island is always one of my favorite stops whenever I visit Camiguin. However, there’s one important thing I always tell friends before they go.
Bring plenty of sun protection.
The sandbar has almost no natural shade, and the tropical sun is much stronger than many people expect. Sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and lightweight long sleeves will make your visit much more enjoyable.
Despite the heat, it’s easily one of the most beautiful places in Camiguin.
After returning from White Island, spend the afternoon cooling off at Katibawasan Falls, one of the island’s tallest waterfalls.
Surrounded by lush tropical forest, the cool freshwater pool is the perfect place to relax after a sunny morning on the sandbar.
If you have extra time, Tuasan Falls is another excellent option. It’s usually less crowded and offers a peaceful atmosphere that’s perfect for swimming.
Finish your day by soaking in the naturally heated pools of Ardent Hibok-Hibok Spring.
The warm volcanic spring is the perfect reward after two days of exploring Camiguin, allowing you to relax while surrounded by nature.
